MEd in Mathematics Education

The 2nd cohort for The University of British Columbia MEd in Mathematics Education begins September 2022. Our theme is Teaching and Learning Mathematics with/in Community. Fully online and part-time the graduate program explores approaches for developing and living mathematics education that is responsive to place/land and connected to community.

Study teaching and learning mathematics in community including:

  • teaching and learning gardens
  • cultural spaces
  • urban, rural and Indigenous communities
  • Indigenous storywork
  • artistic performances
  • inside and outside school classrooms
  • family settings
  • public spaces such as libraries, malls, community centres
  • virtual spaces such as a Virtual Family Math Fair
  • issues important to communities such as climate change, food security
  • social and ecological justice
